Remember when banks had convenient time and temperature signs?  

What if those signs said. ““Want to know what the time and the temperature is? GO FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF!” 

Bank time & temperature signs gave us great information.  You simply looked at the sign to see the time and temperature, and you were also seeing the bank name, which was genius.  Without the time and temperature display, the bank sign was just one of the many signs we would ignore.

This worked perfectly and not only did nearly every bank have one, many other businesses figured it out and they too gained exposure from this.

Then…

Enter the modern marketing mental midget.  (AKA - Social Media Expert)

They replaced something that would get our attention with, “Find Us On Facebook," that won't.

“Find the time and temperature for yourself” seems crazy.

“Find us on Facebook” seems normal.

Isn’t it fascinating how easy we just submitted and conformed to Facebook, and we don’t even understand that we did?

And nearly every brand wraps it’s brand (which is the most valuable thing they own) with the Facebook brand, in exchange for Facebook owning your customer data and selling it to your competitors. 

Everyone I know on both sides of politics is very unhappy with how things are.

Maybe we should look at what we submitted and conformed to.  Maybe the problem isn’t your idiot neighbor.  Maybe it what we are allowing to control us.

Maybe we just need to take down the Facebook sign, put the time and temperature clock back up, and stop feeding the beast that needs our hate to use as its food?
