Wednesday One Thing - Lies spelled with a P = Polls

The average network TV news poll is only of 1,200 people.
156,302,318 people voted in the last Presidential election.
1,200 people is 0.000768% of the total voters.
Another way to understand that is it is just one out of every 130,252 people.
Here is another way to understand what that ratio means:

The University of Michigan’s football stadium is the largest in America. The record crowd in the “Big House” is 115,109 people. The University of Michigan’s basketball arena’s record crowd is 16,847. Combined, they hold 131,956 people, which is very close to the one in 130,252 number.
So think about this…..
Let’s say there was a day when the University of Michigan had record capacity in their basketball and football stadiums, and you were there. If you were there in the sea of people, could you imagine walking up to just one of them, asking them if they like pistachio ice cream, and then going on TV and the web and saying that each and every person in each one of these packed stadiums like pistachio ice cream ? Doesn’t that sound absurd?
That is how TV polls work!
So the next time your favorite TV news or TV news website wants to tell you that “America thinks “this” way, remember that “this” way, is a made up number they created to attempt to manipulate you.
So what did you think about this weeks topic?
Did you
- Love it?
- Hate it?
- Understand now that you are being manipulated?
- :)
